The handicap fishing station.
Below is when the stand is in use.
The new dock will have three stations.
The club’s current project includes the funding and construction of a fishing dock for Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside, a summer camp for developmentally handicapped children and adults. Camp Sunnyside is headquarters in Iowa for Easter Seals. A previously installed dock by the Mid Iowa Bassmasters many years ago had deteriorated to the point where it was no longer safe and had to be removed. As a result of our partnership with Lemar Industries, Cox Design and Metal Fabrication and assistance from Menards Incorporated, fabrication of the new dock has started and it is anticipated that it will be in place before the camping season begins in June of this year.

Lemar Industries of Ankeny, Iowa has developed plans consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for a U shaped dock that will be 30 feet by 32 feet by 30 feet by 6 feet wide with 2 boarding ramps wide enough to facilitate wheel chair traffic. In addition to developing the plans for the structure, Lemar Industries has graciously agreed to supply the framework for the dock, as well as hot dip galvanizing assuring a long lifespan. In all they will be constructing nine bolt together sections as well as the two ramps.
Cox Design and Metal Fabrication of Altoona, Iowa, has donated labor and costs to modify three sections of the railing to provide for fishing stations that are ADA compliant and will permit access for individuals confined in wheelchairs. Photos of the powder coated sections have been attached to this article.
Careful consideration had to be given to the decking material for the docks to assure safe footing for the campers and long term durability. Cedar Rustic solid edge, a composite deck material from Menards, was decided upon. The railing system, also chosen from Menards, Inc.® is the Rail Blazers system. Galvanized and stainless steel fasteners donated by Fastenal® will be used for the assembly of the dock and railings.
Upon completion, this dock should safely accommodate the campers of Camp Sunnyside for many years with minimal maintenance.
We hope you will check back often this spring, as we update this page with photographs showing the progression of the project.
Next year's show will take place from February 26th & 27th 2011.
